Working with Tables

If you have never worked with templates, please make note!  This table template has very strict parameters.  If you (even accidentally) happen to "move" one of the table borders by dragging it with your mouse, the template will no longer perform properly.

You may be able to drag it back so that it "appears" it is working properly, but FrontPage will have readjusted the variable portion of the template to a fixed number, and the fixed number will depend on what your resolution is at the time you've done this.

If you should drag a table border in this template, immediately go to Edit | Undo. This is the only way to restore the original table layout.

Creating a New Web Using a Web Template

FrontPage 2000 | 2002 | 2003
1. Open FrontPage and choose File, Open Web (in 2003 Open Site).

2. Navigate to the unzipped Web and click Open to open the Web so you can start entering your content.

3. Read the instructions.htm and if present the templatedetails.htm.

4. If it appears that the Theme did not load correctly, go to the Theme folder in the unzipped web and read the readme.txt file on how to move the theme files to the correct location on your hard drive.

Editing a Link Bar based on your nav structure

Navigation bars are generated by FrontPage based on your Navigation Structure. If you want to change text on a button, add more buttons to a navigation bar, or delete buttons from a navigation bar, you will need to go to Navigation View and edit your Navigation Structure.

1. Go to Navigation View.

2. To change the text on the buttons, you will need to change the Page Title. Right-click on the page you want to change in your Navigation Structure and choose "Rename." Type in the new page name.

Note: If you are making a significant change, you may also want to change the File Name. You can do this in the Folders View. Change the "pagename.htm" file name to better match your Page Title, making sure to keep the .htm extension and keeping the file name one word with no spaces or special characters.

3. To remove a button from a bar, you will need to remove the page from that area of the navigation structure. Either drag the page to a different area of the navigation structure, or right-click and delete the page from the navigation structure.

4. To change the order of buttons on a bar, simply move the pages in your navigation structure from one place to another.

5. To add a new button to a bar, you will need to have a "new page" that you've created in your Folder List. Drag the page from the folder list over to the navigation structure and add it to the area of the nav structure that defines the navigation bar.

Adding and Deleting Pages From Your New Web

FP 2000 | FP 2002
Your new web comes with several pre-designed pages. Browse through your new web to decide what pages you want to delete and what other pages you need to add. You may wish to begin adding some content to help you with this process.

To delete pages from your web, right-click in your Folder List on the file you wish to delete and select "Delete."

You may also go to Folder View to select multiple files. Once again, select the files, then right-click and select "Delete."

Adding Pages by Resaving an Existing Page

This is useful if you have made some layout changes that you wish to apply to other pages. Simply go to File/Save As and save* your page under a different name.

*About Saving Pages

When you save your page, you will need to change the file name as well as the page title.
The page title may have spaces in it, and it will show up in your navigation buttons and banners as well as in the Title bar of the browser.
The file name ends in an .htm or .html extension and shows up in your Folder List. It's best to use all lowercase letters; also make sure that there are no spaces -- you can use hyphens or underscores instead. You will probably want to name it similar to your Page Title so that you can easily tell what page it is.

  • Page Title: "All About Me"

  • Good File Names: allaboutme.htm; all_about_me.htm; about.htm

  • Bad File Names: all about me.htm; About Me.htm

Verse of the Day Script

If you would like your Verse of the Day to be  in the King James Version, open includes/biblescript.htm. Switch to HTML view and replace:

<script src="http://www.verseoftheday.com/verse.js">

With

<script src="http://www.verseoftheday.com/kjvverse.js">

(that is 2 v's, not 1 w)
